Summer Camp

A Brighter Summer of Care, Learning, Friendship, and Fun:

School may be out, but your child’s care, development, and opportunities to enjoy meaningful childhood experiences can continue all summer long.

Bright Minds PPEC offers a cheerful, medically supported summer camp and enrichment experience for children with complex medical needs who are enrolled in or eligible for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care services. Children can enjoy age-appropriate summer activities, creative projects, social interaction, music, movement, games, and seasonal celebrations while receiving skilled pediatric nursing care based on their individualized care plans.

A Program Filled With Discovery!

Every child deserves the opportunity to make happy summer memories. At Bright Minds PPEC, children with complex medical needs can participate in an engaging summer experience without leaving their essential nursing care and medical support behind. Our team combines compassionate pediatric care with structured activities designed to encourage learning, communication, confidence, creativity, and meaningful interaction with others.

Each child’s experience is guided by their age, abilities, interests, medical needs, individualized care plan, and prescribed treatments. Activities can be adapted so children can participate safely and comfortably whenever medically appropriate. Parents and guardians can feel confident knowing their child is spending the summer in a medically supervised, child-friendly environment where care and childhood experiences come together.

Get in Touch

Creative Arts and Crafts

Children can express themselves through colorful, developmentally appropriate art projects and hands-on creative activities. Projects may be adapted to support participation, fine motor development, sensory exploration, communication, and personal expression.

Music and Movement

Age-appropriate music, rhythm, movement, and interactive activities encourage participation, self-expression, coordination, and enjoyment. Activities are modified when needed according to each child’s abilities and care requirements.

Sensory Exploration

Supervised sensory activities can give children opportunities to safely explore different textures, sounds, shapes, and materials while supporting curiosity, engagement, and developmental growth.

All activities are subject to each child’s medical needs, abilities, individualized care plan, clinical guidance, and program schedule.

Where Summer Fun Meets Specialized Care

Specialized Nursing Care

A traditional summer camp may not have the clinical staff or medical resources needed to support a child with complex healthcare needs. At Bright Minds PPEC, skilled pediatric nursing remains an essential part of each child’s day.

Depending on the child’s physician-directed care plan, nursing services may include:

  • Medication administration
  • G-tube feeding and feeding support
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Oxygen management
  • Vital-sign monitoring
  • Ongoing health assessments
  • Assistance with prescribed treatments
  • Monitoring of medical equipment
  • Coordination with families and healthcare providers
  • Response to changes in the child’s condition

Individualized Care for Every Child

No two children have exactly the same medical, developmental, or personal needs. Bright Minds PPEC develops an individualized care plan in coordination with each child’s family and healthcare providers. The plan may address the child’s medical needs, prescribed treatments, feeding requirements, equipment, developmental goals, therapy coordination, and required interventions. During the summer, our team continues to follow each child’s individualized plan while creating opportunities for appropriate participation in engaging activities and positive social experiences.

Therapy Coordination During the Summer

Summer does not have to interrupt your child’s therapeutic progress.

Bright Minds PPEC offers designated on-site space where a child’s personal providers may deliver ABA, physical, occupational, or speech therapy services in coordination with the child’s medical care plan. Our team communicates with families and therapy providers to support continuity of care and progress toward individualized goals. Therapy availability, frequency, scheduling, and coverage remain subject to the child’s provider arrangements and applicable authorizations.

Meals and Snacks Based on Your Child’s Care Plan

Bright Minds PPEC provides meals and snacks according to each child’s individualized dietary needs, allergies, prescribed feeding requirements, and plan of care. Children who require specialized nutritional support may receive assistance with oral feeding or G-tube feeding as ordered. Mealtimes can also provide opportunities to encourage communication, social interaction, independence, and age-appropriate daily living skills.

Summer Transportation for Eligible Children

Door-to-door transportation may be available for eligible children throughout Miami-Dade County. Bright Minds PPEC uses appropriately equipped vehicles to help eligible children travel to and from the center. Transportation remains subject to eligibility, availability, the child’s needs, approved attendance schedule, service area, and coordination with the Bright Minds team.

Who Can Participate?

The Bright Minds PPEC summer program is intended for:

  • Children currently enrolled at Bright Minds PPEC
  • Children with complex medical needs who may qualify for PPEC services
  • Eligible children under age 21 who are medically stable and require skilled nursing care during the day
  • Families seeking a medically supported summer environment
  • Children whose physicians determine that PPEC care is medically appropriate

This is not a traditional public summer camp or unrestricted drop-in childcare program. Participation requires PPEC eligibility and may require a physician referral or prescription, medical documentation, insurance verification, prior authorization, development of an individualized care plan, and confirmation of available space.

Florida Medicaid may cover authorized PPEC services for eligible children, subject to medical necessity, benefits verification, health-plan requirements, and prior authorization.

Every child’s services are based on their individual medical needs, physician orders, plan of care, and applicable authorization requirements.
